Who let the dogs out? In this case, FCHS did! I was rescued from a very full shelter along with my two siblings. I am one of the David Rosenfelt litter! I am a 5 month old Flat Coated Retriever Mix and am rocking a long, beautiful black coat that has some brown thrown in that you can see when I am out in the sun. I am currently weighing in at around 30lbs and I am by far the smallest of the 3 of us. Since you are here, I would like to tell you a little bit about me. I am already crate trained and don't have any problem spending time in there if you have to be away from home. I love the company of other dogs. But I would be okay alone too ... (Read More)if you are a single dog kind of person as long as you promised me lots of love and affection. Especially since I love my own bones and no one will try to take them. I am also very gentle and submissive with them. I am also living with three cats, and so far I have not paid any attention to them so I could definitely live in a home with cats. I do like to chew, so any family that adopts me will need a nice supply of toys for me, but that is just because I am a puppy still! I listen very well and understand when I grab something I should not. I especially enjoy antlers and bully sticks!! If you think I would be a good fit for your family, please fill out an adoption application on the FCHS website (fchsnc.org) and make sure to put my name down for who you are interested in. My adoption fee is $225 but that includes my microchip and I am also up to date on all my vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick prevention, and will be spayed soon. That way I am all ready to go to my forever home! Will it be you? (Less)

Flat-Coated Retriever Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sam is a 9 month old rescue from the shelter. He is a loving, high energy and smart dog. He is a typical border collie. He is crate trained and knows most basic commands as well as a few tricks. We are looking to re-home him because we have found with his high energy and herding instincts are not a good fit with the small children in our home. He would be great with an active single person or family with older kids. He does do well with our other dogs however loves chasing the cat. The adoption fee is negotiable.

Rescue Me ID: 15-06-08-00444Bacon (female)

Flat-Coated Retriever    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Vaccinations Current

Hi guys. My name is Bacon. If you'll look into my eyes, you will see just how much pain and fear I have endured in my short life. I am barely 1 year old, and I was dumped out in the middle of no where at about 4 months old, with another dog, about the same age. I eventually found a farm where I could scavenge for food, and I settled in there. For almost 8 months, I had no human contact, I just lived with my friend Waffles in the middle of the woods. Finally, when I had puppies someone finally spotted me, and called The Halfway House Animal Rescue. I had not been touched by humans in so long, that I was absolutely terrified. The rescue group ... (Read More)had to move my puppies into a pen, and wait for me to find my babies, and then shut me in. Despite my terror, I have never once been aggressive, mean, or snappy. I just freeze in fear. I am slowly but surely getting better around people, and my puppies have all been adopted out, but I have been left behind without a family of my own. I need a family who is willing to work on my fear, and show me what it means to be loved and wanted. Because I was a stray, my rescue does not know much about my breed, but I appear to be a gorgeous Flat-Coated Retriever. With nutrition, love, and care, my coat will grow to be shiny and beautiful with time. I need a home that is willing to work on me, as it will be a project to work on my fear of humans. With lots of treats, and love, it is possible. I seem to do very well with other dogs, as they have always been my only interaction. I am very calm and do okay with cats here at The Halfway House Animal Rescue as well. I will need a committed owner or a fenced in yard, because I am too scared to walk on a leash right now. Please don't overlook me because I was thrown away as a puppy. I'm waiting for you to put in an application on me today! I love my best friend Waffles so much, but we can go together or separate. I am UTD on shots, HW negative, on flea/tick medication, hw preventative, microchipped, and I will be spayed before leaving. (My rescue is trying to put a little weight on me before I am spayed). Thank you for taking the time to read about me! (Less)

The Flat-Coated Retriever is descended from North American Newfoundlands brought into Great Britain from Canada. The Flat-Coated Retriever dates back to the mid nineteenth century. The Flat-Coated Retriever almost died out during World War II. The Flat-Coated Retriever was supposed to have been descended from the St. John's Water Dog, but this turns out not to be the case. Flat-Coated Retrievers greet other Flat-Coats with a kiss, with each licking the lips of the other dog.
