This handsome boy was rescued from a High Kill shelter in Harnett County on his 'last' day. Vet says he is about 2 years old and weighs 65 pounds. Loves to be outside in our fenced in yard but also good inside at night. Gets along well with other dogs and loves children. Looking for a loving forever home for this sweet boy.

Flat-Coated Retriever Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive

Blackie was formerly living on a chain. Then my friends at Coalition to Unchain dogs built his caretaker a fence for Blackie and the other strays the man had taken in.. Shortly thereafter, the caretaker became ill and was no longer able to care for them. They found homes for some, others they placed with rescue groups. We were asked to take Blackie. Blackie needed socialization, as he was very scared. Blackie was found to be healthy, heartworm negative but he had double dewclaws that had become ingrown. That had to be painful but he never complained as we cut them and pulled out ingrown nails from his pads. We had the dewclaws surgically ... (Read More)removed so that will never happen again. He has gained confidence in his foster home and we feel he is ready to find his fur-ever home. He greets his foster Mom and Dad with a wagging tail. He still prefers to be outside (unless the weather is bad) playing with other dogs. He is learning to play with toys, something he never had. He loves treats and will gently take them from your hand. Blackie doesn't have a mean bone in his body. This beautiful dog is so sweet; he wants and deserves a loving home. Blackie weighs 48lbs now and is about 2 years old, on preventatives and up to date on vaccinations. He is housebroken and trained to a PetSafe fence. We would like to find Blackie a home with older children, another dog (or two) to play with, and a fenced yard. For more information & adoption application please contact VivGraves@hotmail.com.     The Flat-Coated Retriever is descended from North American Newfoundlands brought into Great Britain from Canada. The Flat-Coated Retriever almost died out during World War II. The Flat-Coated Retriever was supposed to have been descended from the St. John's Water Dog, but this turns out not to be the case. Flat-Coated Retrievers greet other Flat-Coats with a kiss, with each licking the lips of the other dog.
